Jenny - This girl's name is used in German and English. Its source is Gwenhwyfar, a Welsh name meaning "Pure and yielding, whitewave." In British legend, Gwenhwyfar (the Welsh source of this name) was identified with King Arthur's tragic queen.
Caught as she was between her devotion to her husband and her illicit love for the saintly Sir Lancelot, her predicament is succinctly expressed in the meaning of her name.
Irene - This girl's name is used in German, Dutch, English, Italian, French and Spanish. Its source is Eirene, a Greek name meaning "Peace." This was the name of the Greek goddess of peace. Until the 20th century, it was commonly pronounced in three syllables (i-REE-nee).This was changed through the combined popularity of a series of two-syllable influences: dancer Irene Castle (1893-1969), a popular musical comedy called Irene, and Goodnight, Irene, a plaintive folk ballad by Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter, 1888-1949).Multiple Tony Award-winning actress Irene Worth (born Hattie Adams in 1916) is a notable preserver of the three-syllable pronunciation.
Melvin - This girl's and boy's name is used in Dutch and English. Its source is Malvina, a female Gaelic name meaning "Smooth brow." The name Melvin ranked 3068th in popularity for females of all ages in a sample of the 1990 US Census. This name is usually reserved for boys. In part, it could owe its position on the US Census popularity list to incorrectly filled-out census forms. ( *snicker* no wonder... *blink* i'm no saying anything melvin. really.. *smirk*)

It is based on the common English word.In the late 19th century, it was fashionable in English-speaking countries to name girls after precious objects.
